When J. A. Cipriano was in second grade, his teacher gave everyone in class a journal to write down whatever they wanted. Their first subject was to write about something they didn’t like. J. A. chose to write about why he didn’t like writing. His reasoning was simple. He had bad handwriting. Even then, he was destined to be an engineer due to his messy scrawl.

Unfortunately, he found through the course of this little adventure that he actually liked writing. That year was sort of the high point for his writing career because he won a writing contest for the state. He got to go to a big dinner and his teacher was all dressed up.

He kept writing little stories, year after year, and in sixth grade, won another contest. In seventh grade, he broke his arm and got the cast signed by both Dean Koontz and Stan Lee. It is, by far, the coolest cast he’s owned. That was about the time he found video games and anime. His writing turned mostly toward fanfiction until about ninth grade when he wrote his first novel, a small book about twenty thousand words called Revelations. In sophomore year, he wrote two more books to complete the trilogy because he saw Star Wars that year and learned trilogies were the cool thing to do.

He rewrote Revelations during his senior year, and his wife swears it is the best thing he’s written. J.A. is not so sure. Every time he reads it, he cringes, but then again, he hates everything he writes, so there is that.

It was about that time, he got heavily involved in a fanfiction writing group, but that isn’t one hundred percent accurate. It was a world based on a popular anime but everything was created especially for this world.  It made it so that every story someone wrote was unique.

Imagine writing a Star Wars novel set 1,000 years after A New Hope, where everything that happened was a distant memory and you get the idea. You have the force, some distant memories of the past, and that’s pretty much it.

He wrote about a million words (863K to be exact) for them before he decided to do his own thing. He wrote another novel. He put it in a drawer. He wrote another one that eventually became the basis for The Hatter is Mad. His next novel was Kill It With Magic, his first real novel. It’s not bad, but it’s bumpy. This is unfortunate because the books get loads better as the series progresses.

Since then, he’s written six more novels, four of which are in the Lillim Callina Series, and one in the Abby Banks series. The other is stuck in a drawer for time undetermined. He’s writing his next book now which is about werewolves fighting mummies in Ancient Egypt. After that, he will move onto Abby Banks 2. The Spy Within will come out in June or July.

J.A. also has three chinchillas. Two of them are grey, and because of this, they are named Slate and Cadmium. The third is named Jet because he’s black, and Jet is old English for black. See, creative. He also has a cat named Turtle. This does pose problems for his two-year-old from time to time.

    1. I’m not sure if we’re going to do a 4th butcher book. My new book will be out Thursday, the new Soulstone book should be out the week of the twentieth, and the third Roy Morgan book will be out the first week of March

  1. All but 2 of your cursed series are no longer available on audible. Any idea if/when theyll be available again?

  2. I just read Vol. 1 of the Abby Banks series and want to read the other two books on my tablet. I can’t seem to be able to find Vol. 2. Can you direct me to a resource? I really enjoyed the #1.

Also, I see that you are a “Jet” novella writer. I LOVE the “Jet” series and have been waiting to see if another one was coming, but have not seen it (at least in my searches).

    1. I rewrote the first abby banks book as May Contain Magic. The second is out as The Magic within. It isn’t so different that you won’t be able to follow book 2 if you just pick up the rewrite.

  3. Hi just finished the soulstone audiobook and loved it! I really liked the references to alter world and the Dresden files probably my 2 favorite series and that bunny is awesome cracked me up multiple times. So keep up the good work can’t wait for the second to come out in audiobook. I’m a delivery driver so audiobooks keep me sane at work.

    1. The audio for book 2 should be out within a couple weeks. The narrator just finished recording this week, so it will proof next week and then head out.

  4. Have read both of your soul stone books and loved them was wondering if you knew when the third would be available and thanks for some great characters and laughs.

  5. Any word if your second book in the Legendary builders series will be released on audiobook. I really enjoyed the story so far.

  6. I am really enjoying The Legendary Builder” series! I was curious do you have an idea as to how many books you are planning to write for the series and when will the 5th book be out?

  7. So far i have enjoyed all of your works, i love the LitRPG, and all of the skillmaster type books.

I cant wait for more books in the soulstone series, elements of wrath, legendary builder, bugs war and the like. Pen is mightier looks like a singleshot, but i enjoyed it and would love to see more of that series too.

Getting ready to start Found magic, thrice-cursed mage and witching on a starship. I am a very avid reader and your works i just cant put down. I would easily put you up there with some of the best sci-fi and fantasy authors.

A lot of the series would make great movies or cgi. Especially the LitRPGs, i have a feeling they would be better and more realistic than some. But easily on par with Log Horizon, Is it wrong to pick up girls in dungeons, SAO and some of the others graphic novels turned anime.

I hope you keep writing for a long time, your books are an inspiration and can be very hard to put down for long. I know you are working on multiple series, i am content to wait and see what you come up with. Thank you for your hard work and effort.
